Even though the hardware of this gadget is incredibly neat, and extremely cool, it's not terribly robust. My very first device experienced to be returned mainly because of a hairline crack in the reduced remaining of the display screen. My 2nd product is about to go again to garmin (thanks amazon return plan) due to the fact it in essence corrupted itself in some way and as a consequence no longer showed any icons all through the technique (rendering it unusable). Garmin support were really helpful, but it appears to be the device lacks a 'factory reset' failsafe which would return it to the condition i obtained it in.
This is a significant error in my opinion. I believed i could just do some magic reset process and it would be functioning again but sadly not. As a consequence, i didn't have the unit and the correct cityxpress map on my modern excursion to prague, which was 1 of my reasons for obtaining this device. My ordeals with this product doing work have been wonderful, but there is certainly the rub - these activities have been bookended with big chunks of getting a non-practical product. I am ranking this 'ok' simply because when it works it truly is great, but when it can be broken it is really ineffective.
Acquired the nuvi 3790t to swap my navman s90i which i was extremely joyful with but could not get up to date mapping for any extended. The first thing that struck about the nuvi is how thin and stylish looking it is. Really similar to the apple iphone four. It has a superior high quality monitor which is simple to go through in all light and is quick to use.
I was looking at the 3760t but imagined i might pay the added for the 3790t's voice recognition. It will work genuinely very well and particularly helpful for genuine handsfree phone calls by using bluetooth. Did have a little hassle updating the software program and maps (took six hrs) but that's the only destructive so considerably. Incredibly happy with my purchase.

- Over priced for what it is
Negative Review of Garmin Nuvi 3790T 4.3" Sat Nav with Europe Maps, Premium Traffic and Voice Activation
I bought this sat nav becuase it was highly rated by which. I had my revious sat nav for four years and had good services from it until it died completely and i was advised to get a new one. I have had this garmin model for two months. It does not let me preview the route so that i can request an alternative. Consequently i have had several journies where i have been taken actross country up and down tiny country lanes, when a slightly longer route would have used more major roads and ,to me, have been much safer. It glitches and gets "stuck" so that by the time i have reached the turn off, i have already gone by and have to go further up the road to come back. Otherwise it gives the instruction to turn far too soon, and i am trying to work out which turn off it really meant. Furthermore it occasionally "sticks" so that i can not turn it off, or gps is offline, so i have to reset by holding down the "on" button.
In four years i never had such problem with the other model of satnav, and wished i hadn't read the which report.

Garmin 3790 T. A extremely good bit of package. Monitor is incredibly huge and very clear and simple to adjust. It can be slimline (8mm) and really simple to carry with you. I like the pedestrian capability creating it effortless to continue on foot. There are a lot of other attributes these types of as eco routes, gas use calculations and voice activation. I utilised it very first for a vacation to birmingham and it took me immediate to the doorway. The pics as you strategy a junction are helpful also. I have utilized it en-route to ostend in belgium and it was fine. I like the means to flip from mls. To km. Making it easy to stay inside of the velocity restrict whichever country you are in. It could do with a clip-on hood or cowel to avoid reflection on the display screen. May possibly be an accent but i come across garmin's web page overly laborous to use. The cable is a little bit of a monster but you get made use of to it. A single worry is that it runs very scorching no matter whether on the electric power wire or battery. Has everyone else observed this? some streets are incorrect e. G. It tells me i reside in a different street but my last in-car satnav did that as well. In the beginning, the major situation i had was obtaining it registered on line and i am even now acquiring problems having updates from garmin on line. The registration procedure did not look extremely straightforward and the web site awkward for this system. When i telephoned for assist i acquired the most patronising obnoxious tiny twit it was all he could do to remain awake and converse to me. When i tried to ring back again and speak to a person else, the telephone just rang out. Garmin british isles will need to get their customer treatment on monitor and make positive their staff members are up to velocity on their interpersonal skills. If i really don't have to cell phone them, then this device will be quite efficient. .
So Close to Remaining Excellent!. I decided to go again to the dark facet and procured the garmin nuvi 3790t right after a number of main arguments with my tomtom go which approximately resulted in divorce and a in the vicinity of fatal collision. As with all the other reviews, the unit is lovely and all other sat navs really should comply with this route in terms of layout, esp. The contact display which right after applying the tom for a couple of many years , is enjoyment to touch. The small overview - fantastic style and design, voice command fantastic when it will work (70% hit fee), maps a+. Just missing a number of bits, which is a disgrace for the price tag you pay out. In-depth review. Packaging and delivery: (not garmins fault) - product was offered to my neighbour as i was out (couriers should really only ever do this if it is been agreed with you) £250 item remaining provided to any individual i never know, not delighted. Box, was open up, was that my neighbour? or packaging? i won't ever know. Arrived in good time. Inside of the box: i recognized a few reviews talking about the erroneous charger for the car. They have been incorrect. The charger is accurate, it matches into the bracket, not the unit. For the price tag garmin really should of thrown in a situation. Rubbish dash board mount lasted ten minutes just before failing. Micro mini usb cable to hook up unit to computer system. Turning on: i downloaded all the new maps and updates, took about three hrs in whole and that is with a extremely good internet link. Download was straightforward and straightforward to follow and clearly tells you that with this design, you need to flip the device off soon after obtain alternatively than ready for the reboot. Voice command/cellular phone: when this will work, it is really great. I have a strike charge of about 70% when driving. Once you're in, it appears to be to do the job 99%, it can be just getting the vc turned on that can be a small challenging. Downloaded all my iphone4 contacts with simplicity. When you talk to it to simply call a get in touch with for instance `steve' it will record all the numbers for steve, cellular, property or operate and you decide on one, two or three - seem quality is great, but the quantity is established at the volume for the maps, so you have to switch the units quantity to at the very least 70% right before calling which is a suffering. It really should have two volume options, calls and maps. Map look at: this is why i altered from tomtom to garmin. The garmin view is so considerably far better than tt, a person touch on the monitor and you get to see a bird's eye view of in which you at this time are, in contrast to the tt that took at the very least four display touches and then issues zooming in to do the same. The lane aid is excellent, albeit it pops up a little far too early prior to the junction, but greater early than late. The automatic zooming is wonderful, gives you just the right amount of money of info you require when driving, zooms in when slowing down and out again when dashing up so you can see the spot around you while protecting aim on the highway that you are travelling on. 3d terrain is quite excellent whilst not much use in east anglia but it did exhibit me a 3d graphic of ely cathedral as i drove past. The dual-orientations is extremely good, i am not certain which i choose, the two do a terrific task. Map information is a modest difficulty, the normal operate is to clearly show 2 boxes, arrival and speed. I like to know arrival, speed, miles and so forth. You can add these but this moves the packing containers to the appropriate hand display which in flip lowers the map dimensions by about thirty%, they should of allowed these containers to remain on the base with the other two. Total the map screens are exceptional, could be improved a tiny but so significantly greater to use than my former tt. Contact display: excellent, zooming in and out is quick, two swipes and the map will change it all-around, double faucet and will zoom in. The contact buttons on the main menus are also incredibly effortless to use despite the fact that swiping down like an apple iphone is not as clean but acquiring there, perfectly finished garmin!basic safety cameras: oh dear, tomtom get arms down here. Garmin have these silly textual content like messages appear on the map when in selection but they never exhibit you the place on the map the set device is, just states fastened device. Tt would present me a camera on the map so i could see the actual area of the digicam, with garmin, i am getting to gradual down until the information disappears (i know i should not be dashing) as i have no notion if the digital camera is on my facet or the other. I like that it warns me of prospective warm places for cell cameras but i do not like the textual content concept showing all above the map as it could protect element of your route and is not going to go away till you are out of that area. They need to duplicate tt and just present a tiny digital camera upcoming to the highway you are on - general i'm upset with the protection digital camera function, but it performs so shouldn't get any fines. The place as well: garmin missed a trick with this perform. Compared with tt and navman, when you enter in your area destination in the `where too' the device just starts off, it would not give you the possibility to look at the complete route to start with and to counsel a diverse route like the other brands do. Navman give 3 solutions and i believe the new tt also does the similar. These a disgrace as you must at least see which route the device desires to just take you. Thankfully as the zoom purpose performs so effectively it is quick to zoom out and see the complete route prior to heading off. What is odd is that this device does provide you this look at route function in a further environment termed `trip planner' below you can enter hundreds of distinctive stops or just enter the 1 location, after you enter this you can push `view map' and it displays you the whole excursion in advance of heading off, why couldn't they contain this in the `where as well function' ??routing: i have not experienced an difficulty in this article, it is really taken me on roads i would not of applied before but finished up currently being a really quick route, not found traffictrends performing yet as i have only employed the device a handful of periods. Drove to london on a route i use often and it took me just in which i needed to go and did no divert off any big roads for no obvious cause. Poi: incredibly good, showed me every little thing i would hope in my area from lodges, hard cash factors and petroltraffic: not the most effective as its nevertheless applying fm dependent info and you from time to time don't pick any facts up, i never have a tendency to plug mine in as i am apprehensive it will get me off a highway due to traffic when the traffic data may perhaps be out of date by a several hrs. Total: so close to currently being excellent. Great maps and screen style, quite uncomplicated to use. Slightly more than rate, i consider £200 max. These kinds of a shame it unsuccessful on some simple factors i mentioned higher than and that they failed to consist of all the are living details like the other units but then once again why should i be expecting garmin to construct a device just for my specs! would i recommend it, yes. Would i get it once more, certainly. **it ought to come with a case** i have had no crashes, no white maps and unit does not get scorching. .
The Best Satnav Ever!. Length:: one:37 minsafter to begin with loving this satnav, i experienced a method crash just after a firmware update and am now on my next unit! garmin acquired this to me rather speedily immediately after i experienced convinced them that the device was no for a longer time exhibiting in any of their applications. So, why do i appreciate this unit? i have experienced a series of gps models in excess of the past 10 years. My very first etrex had 1mb of memory and no maps, and any routes were being prepared on a separate computer system and input as waypoints. The future had 8mb and maps, but no routing, so again any trip was performed by waypoints. The very last moveable i continue to have, and it is a garmin etrex vista cx. This permitted me to use os-degree contour data, and entire routing across western europe, but is limited to a 2gb microsd card. I then experimented with a tomtom one particular especially for in-car use, and this has been very productive. You can make map corrections on this and submit them to tomtom. Sadly, when tomtom up to date their maps every single quarter, none of these corrections experienced taken in the update---issues like bollarded roadways, mini roundabouts, and so forth. Furthermore, each and every update completely wiped my person knowledge, so in impact i was set back again to square just one every single time. The inner memory was also fastened and unexpandable. A short experiment with an ipod touch v4 and tomtom maps, plus a cradle, failed simply because the cradle was only capable of holding an ipod touch v3!now we come to the 3790t. The initial factor you see about it is how slender and gentle it is when compared with the opposition. The display is massive and apparent, and customizable in visual appearance and volume of facts shown. There is 4gb of memory onboard and a microsdhc slot for expansion. Generating favourites is not intuitive, as you have to entry that by means of the 'go to' choice alternatively than the resources one. On the other hand, creating a favorite could not be less complicated, with total postcode research and a wide range of other inputs, including spelling out the name on an onscreen keyboard or just scrolling the map. In this article was another revelation. On scrolling out, you get a reduction map of the total world! it was practically like working with google earth on an apple iphone, but without the facts fees!there is bluetooth onboard, so you can link your phone simply. Nevertheless, the fun element is the speech recognition. Say 'voicecommand' and you have full navigation of menu selections and you can say a desired destination and tackle and navigate there with out touching the display. See the attached video clip. The provided cable and cradle include a life span membership to fm traffic stories from taking part nations around the world, but i have not tried that yet. Oh, and the cable powers the cradle, not the unit, so eliminating the unit and changing it will not contain any fiddling with a usb connection. Garmin supply a self-adhesive disk to connect to the dashboard, so you can mount the cradle there instead than on the display screen. This is helpful for all those cars whose screen is a very long way from the driver. The mount looks strong, with none of the slipping-off-the-windscreen encounters i have previously experienced. You can also acquire a individual accessory that plugs into the car or truck diagnostic program and experiences back again data like rpm, timing advance, engine load, and so forth, but much more importantly, fuel economy. This is the garmin ecoroute hd. It plugs into a socket which all modern cars have reduced down on the driver's aspect of the motor vehicle, higher than the pedals. You can get a card that presents you 4 map updates a 12 months for as lengthy as you hold the unit. The price tag is modest, but well truly worth it. What much more can i say? tons, but this evaluation is finding lengthy. So, really advisable by anyone who is a gps lover and has often up-to-date his products and solutions about the years as new capabilities look. This is the ultimate gadget!.

Conclusion of Garmin Nuvi 3790T 4
(2) mapping: crazy routes consistently advised, e. (a) when in the long run i want to flip suitable onto the a4, telling me to go straight on across the lights, go to the upcoming roundabout and make a u-transform so that i can occur back and change still left when in truth i can plainly see that there are two lanes of traffic reserved for traffic turning correct on to the a4 immediate. (b) telling me to switch off the most important highway into a facet road operating parallel to the key highway, keep on for half a mile or so and then rejoin the primary road in the path that i was previously travelling. I have not expert any of the difficulties outlined in other opinions, other than i had to reset the unit to default options just before traffic updates would function. For some cause it did not like me activating the device for the initial time in an space without the need of traffic reception, and appeared to confuse it.
A leading tip would be to order the official friction mount when you obtain this device, it sits on the dashboard without the need of motion or vibration of any type, and is very quick to eliminate when you go away the car. There are various other options these kinds of as eco routes, fuel usage calculations and voice activation. May perhaps be an accent but i obtain garmin's web page overly tiresome to use. Initially, the significant difficulty i experienced was finding it registered on line and i am even now possessing trouble acquiring updates from garmin on line. Garmin british isles have to have to get their customer treatment on observe and make absolutely sure their team are up to velocity on their interpersonal skills.
I decided to go again to the dark aspect and procured the garmin nuvi 3790t immediately after quite a few key arguments with my tomtom go which practically resulted in divorce and a close to fatal collision. The touch display screen which right after making use of the tom for a pair of many years , is pleasure to touch. The brief review - wonderful style and design, voice command fantastic when it is effective (70% strike amount), maps a+. Packaging and supply: (not garmins fault) - item was presented to my neighbour as i was out (couriers ought to only ever do this if it's been agreed with you) £250 product currently being offered to anyone i really don't know, not happy. For the value garmin should of thrown in a situation.
Turning on: i downloaded all the new maps and updates, took about 3 hrs in overall and that's with a very excellent internet relationship. When you check with it to contact a get hold of for instance `steve' it will list all the quantities for steve, cell, household or function and you select 1, two or three - seem high quality is very good, but the volume is set at the volume for the maps, so you have to flip the models quantity to at the very least 70% prior to contacting which is a discomfort. Map watch: this is why i modified from tomtom to garmin. The garmin perspective is so much far better than tt, a single touch on the monitor and you get to see a bird's eye look at of wherever you at the moment are, in contrast to the tt that took at minimum four display screen touches and then issues zooming in to do the similar. You can add these but this moves the containers to the suitable hand display which in transform reduces the map size by about 30%, they ought to of permitted these boxes to continue to be on the base with the other two.
All round the map screens are outstanding, could be enhanced a minor but so a lot improved to use than my former tt. Contact monitor: exceptional, zooming in and out is quick, two swipes and the map will switch it about, double faucet and will zoom in. Garmin have these foolish textual content like messages show up on the map when in array but they don't clearly show you wherever on the map the fixed device is, just states fastened device. Tt would display me a digital camera on the map so i could see the specific site of the digital camera, with garmin, i am acquiring to sluggish down until the message disappears (i know i should not be speeding) as i have no idea if the camera is on my aspect or the other. I like that it warns me of likely incredibly hot places for mobile cameras but i don't like the text message showing all more than the map as it may well go over element of your route and will never go away right up until you are out of that space.
In which much too: garmin missed a trick with this perform. Unlike tt and navman, when you enter in your spot location in the `where too' the device just commences, it will not give you the choice to perspective the total route very first and to propose a unique route like the other makes do. Such a disgrace as you really should at the very least see which route the device would like to just take you. Thankfully as the zoom functionality operates so nicely it is effortless to zoom out and watch the complete route ahead of heading off. What is actually odd is that this device does offer you you this view route perform in yet another setting identified as `trip planner' in this article you can enter hundreds of various stops or just enter the 1 vacation spot, once you enter this you can push `view map' and it displays you the entire excursion right before heading off, why couldn't they incorporate this in the `where far too function' ??routing: i've not had an situation right here, it really is taken me on roadways i wouldn't of utilised right before but finished up staying a extremely fast route, not seen traffictrends operating yet as i have only employed the device a couple of instances.
Drove to london on a route i use often and it took me accurately wherever i wanted to go and did no divert off any important streets for no evident purpose. Poi: extremely very good, confirmed me almost everything i would count on in my region from lodges, funds points and petroltraffic: not the finest as its continue to making use of fm based mostly information and you at times don't choose any information up, i will not have a tendency to plug mine in as i am concerned it will just take me off a road due to traffic when the traffic details may well be out of date by a several several hours. Outstanding maps and screen layout, extremely effortless to use. Such a disgrace it unsuccessful on some straightforward factors i outlined earlier mentioned and that they didn't incorporate all the reside data like the other models but then again why need to i assume garmin to develop a device just for my requirements.**it should really appear with a case** i have experienced no crashes, no white maps and unit does not get warm.
Size:: one:37 minsafter at first loving this satnav, i experienced a process crash after a firmware update and am now on my 2nd device. Garmin bought this to me quite speedily right after i experienced confident them that the unit was no for a longer period demonstrating in any of their applications. My 1st etrex experienced 1mb of memory and no maps, and any routes have been prepared on a independent computer system and enter as waypoints. The future had 8mb and maps, but no routing, so once again any vacation was finished by waypoints. You can make map corrections on this and post them to tomtom.
Regrettably, when tomtom current their maps every single quarter, none of these corrections experienced taken in the update---issues like bollarded roads, mini roundabouts, and so forth. A transient experiment with an ipod touch v4 and tomtom maps, plus a cradle, failed because the cradle was only capable of holding an ipod contact v3now we arrive to the 3790t. Oh, and the cable powers the cradle, not the unit, so taking away the unit and replacing it does not require any fiddling with a usb relationship. Garmin provide a self-adhesive disk to attach to the dashboard, so you can mount the cradle there alternatively than on the screen. You can acquire a card that offers you four map updates a calendar year for as prolonged as you preserve the unit.
This is the greatest gadget. I bought a 3790t immediately after significantly deliberation - i was contemplating android primarily based navigation and essential some thing that would be loud enough and bright more than enough to function in a convertible. I am quite satisfied with the 3790t - voice command will work genuinely very well for me, bluetooth with the two a blackberry and nokia e51 works properly. I did update the software and maps as shortly as i acquired it so that may possibly be why i have had no difficulties. I was most impressed with the point it arrives with a motor vehicle mount (which involves cradle and charger) along with a tmc traffic receiver which plugs into a port on the side of the motor vehicle mount andalso the voice instructions are good for fingers-free place setting (nonetheless my mother-in-legislation is scottish and it had a small concern with her accent). I have had a couple standard garmin satnavs and could not justify the £1k that it would value to have a constructed in satnav in my new car or truck.
Pretty Good But Some Rough Edges. The good stuff has been covered by many others and i'd like to make it clear this is still quite a good navigation unit despite my concerns outlined below. I'm not sending it back but you should know what's missing before you buy. It's lacking the kind of fine control that i would have expected on a high end device. One feature my six year old car sat nav is capable of is overlaying little icons on the map to show where parking, petrol stations and motorway services are. While the nuvi 3790t can find the closest one on demand it doesn't show a selection of icons on the map. When driving long distances it can be incredibly useful to be able to see when the next parking area or service area is coming along on the motorway. Nuvi can't do this. When you want to do a route detour, there is no choice of how much of a detour you want to do. Systems i've used in the past offer you a choice of how long to detour for. After all, what's the point of driving off a motorway only to rejoin it halfway through a jam? while the device has automatic traffic avoidance this is not 100% and some finer grained control would be great. Once you hit the detour button, you cannot cancel the detour as far as i can find. To override the detour you need to restart the route calculation for your original destination. This is reasonably quick as it's stored so you don't need to re-key it but it's a bit of a surprise. You cannot define your own roads to avoid either. To avoid a particular place you would need to set up a multi stop trip to steer the route away from something you'd heard on the radio. Other systems allow you to pick the road from the turn list and hit an avoid button which triggers a recalculation. Although the unit has real time traffic updates, the jams don't show on the main map. You have to push a couple of buttons to bring up a traffic map. My current system just overlays this info so you can see where the problems are. With such a high resolution screen and great graphics this was a missed change. At the very least it should be an option to show it on the main map. My final gripe is the audio prompting. You either have a chime plus a voice announcement or you can have silence. Other units have offered a simple chime on its own to inform you that a turn is coming up. This is very useful when you have other people in the car as it's less intrusive but still effective. You can't adjust the volume of the key beeps versus the spoken directions either. There is just one volume option and no choice of tones. As you can see, none of these things are basic functional failures of the device but they're the kind of attention to detail features which really should be there on a device costing this much. There is no such thing as a normal user. Everybody likes to set up their system slightly differently based on personal preference and this is a device which lacks some of the options to be able to tweak it so it fits how you want it. If none of this bothers you, this is a unit which is good, is small enough to go in a handbag or jacket pocket when you leave the car and car be used for walking around too. I just wish a little more work had gone into the customisation. .
Very Competent. I have had a couple basic garmin satnavs and could not justify the £1k that it would cost to have a built in satnav in my new car. On that basis i bought the nuvi 3790t and am delighted with it. The most obvious feature of the 3790t is that the form factor is so slim and sleek that it can easily be mistaken for an iphone. I hope it isn't a statement of the obvious, but, before using it make sure you update the software via the garmin site to the latest version - in my experience each model of satnav evolves through updates and previously reported issues are ironed out. In overall terms the pros and cons of the 3790t seem to be;pros. - easy to use. - super sleek design which also lends itself to pedestrian use. - razor sharp screen and graphics - in 3d mode it is the sort of thing you'd expect to see in an aircraft cockpit. - good, clear maps and control interface. - surprisingly good audio - there is a built in speaker but also one built into the holder. - battery life is good - it always is when garmin's are newish but it can deteriorate. - can be used in landscape or portrait modes - switches automatically. - voice command feature works well - in fact, better than the voice recognition system installed in my car. Cons (on the basis that no device is perfect). - can appear slow in some map redraws but to me this doesn't impact on its usability. - power lead is quite thick but not unmanageable. - traffic subscription is free for the product lifetime but not "live" or "hd" (which require a subscription though). - new model in the wings (3490t) - out in the us and appears due in the uk soon - however, there is a lack of clarity about the feature set and price etc. The cost of the 3790t seems to be falling slightly in anticipation of this fact. However, because some features will be new in the 3490t it could be some time before software fixes etc. Are available even when the new model is available. Other points i'd mention - the slim form factor could make the 3790t a bit more fragile than the thicker models, so, get a case. Also, there is another model available - the 3790lmt which features lifetime map updates - to me the enhanced price isn't worth it and you're much better off buying the 3790t with a garmin lifetime map update card from amazon as it will work out cheaper. Clearly, you don't need to buy this card immediately as you have 90 days from first use of the device during which you can download any updated maps for free. Overall, i think the 3790t performs well and some of the earlier issues have been cleared up by software/firmware fixes. On the basis of my experience it is recommended. Update - since writing this review the price of the 3790lmt which includes lifetime map updates has fallen significantly and this might make it better value than the 3790t - i suggest you check on amazon before ordering. Also, a release date in february has been announced for the 3490t which despite it's lower model designation number may be an alternative to the 3790t - this new model is listed on amazon so you can compare the features. .
