The Best TomTom XL Classic Western Europe Satellite Navigation System

Review and Buying Guide of The Best TomTom XL Classic Western Europe Satellite Navigation System

This is a critique of tomtom buyer solutions. I now have a tomtom satellite navigation system and use it consistently. I rate this as a five star item. I shall before long be travelling thoroughly in the course of europe by road and just lately noticed an chance to obtain a spare device really cheaply at a sale. Though an more mature design, the device was even now boxed, certainly comprehensive and appeared to be unused.

It would not, however, switch on but, considering it required nothing at all much more than charging, i took a possibility and bought it. I tried using anything (as did my neighborhood keep) but the unit merely would not change on. Inevitably, i contacted tomtom buyer solutions and told them how the i had received the unit and that it was 'not' under guarantee. Their support was exceptional. First of all, they despatched me a little package deal made up of a cardboard box which, when assembled, fitted my tomtom device completely and would clearly safeguard the device whilst in the post.

Improve of tomtom one classic. This product's screen is bigger than its preceding one particular in its product or service selection, if not, its accurately the exact. Contemplating the price tag leap from a smaller sized display screen to this sizing, and just for the reason that of that, i was a tiny hesitant. But its a regarded brand name so i'm content with it,. All in all, its not a fussy piece of know-how and thankfully havn't received misplaced with it.

I would propose it.

Negative Review of TomTom XL Classic Western Europe Satellite Navigation System

Let down. Bought this about 10 months ago and was not having any problem. Suddenly oneday in the middle of nowhere it died and never started again. So had to rush into the services and buy a new one. Contacted tomtom and they suggested a few steps to try to restart it.

The steps didnt work initially and suddenly it started again and worked briefly and died again. Explained everything to tomtom and they were kind enough to send a prepaid parcel box. Sent the device to them and got it straight back saying no problem could be found. Here i am now with a device that is unreliable and a company that says no problem with the device.Good luck.

  • A Little bit Strike and Miss. Have experienced this product for some six weeks and not long ago took in on vacation to wales. Calling at looking through providers on the m4 it fully shed the plot and all over again at the identical location on the return (eastward) journey. So considerably so this time that it failed to track down a signal miles after i experienced left the service which meant that it could not immediate me from the m4 onto the a329m at wokingham. Had to totally re-established the entire detail. After accomplished it picked up a powerful sign and worked good (fickle !)in wales it unquestionably did not like the space all over the cambrian mountains. Lost the plot (gps signal) several periods. Confirmed us in the middle of a reservoir on a pair of situations. Fairly amazingly it worked perfectly in the brecon beacons and did not drop a one sign during our week there. Suffers from the common occasional inadvertent course indications which had to be taken care of with caution (a bit of prevalent feeling prevailing in excess of blindly following the unit's spoken directions). Display screen was apparent and vivid most of the time (other than when it made the decision to reset alone in night vision manner - despite the fact that that could possibly have been my fault as the touch display screen was so dim i could not see the place i was pressing. Monitor map is uncluttered and the additional information in the base 50 % of the display screen can be picked out from the choices menu. The estimated occasions of arrival (eta) was very astonishingly exact. A sound warnings signifies to mapped presence of 'safety' cameras, and the monitor also shows the depend down distance to the camera's spot. But it will never decide on up each solitary digital camera, so be warned. I experienced acquired seperately the tom tom site visitors receiver attachment (excess £28 or so) which is a little bit fiddly to connect and has to be set to the monitor and will only function when the entire device is plugged into the 12v socket. It shows targeted traffic restrictions and so on. Vertically on the correct hand edge of the monitor. It connected to the fm website traffic signal most of the time whilst on main routes but i discovered it's information woefully out of date or incorrect. Superb piece of gear for travellers not having to navigate with maps the complete time, and affording them time to just take in the surroundings. Especially very good (when doing the job thoroughly) for visually warning the driver of impending hairpin bends or sharp turns. Approaching a directional adjust it obviously and timely gave voice route and visual warning about the switch or hazard forward which was repeated as just one approached the switch. [just a pity it doesn't show altitude as nicely. Just one has no strategy from the screen as to the steepness of the highway in advance - but hey ho you are not able to have everthing i suppose. Plotting a route either from where you are or between two different locations (a2b) was simple enough with the option of a "travel via" or "avoid part of route" as well, although it does not seem to be able to put in several "travel via" options (more research required possibly on this one). Prepared plotted routes are identified by using a different colouring to the route - so you know if you have gone off course even if you have the voice directions turned off. Unit can be updated by plugging into a computer to access the tomtom website and there is a wide selection of point of interest - tourist information sites, historic buildings, castles, supermarkets, hospitals, petrol stations, even dangerous narrow roads and nightlife (many of which have been plotted by users) and many, many more, which can be downloaded for free. Overall a useful piece of kit which has several advantages for driver and navigator but should only be used as an aid to navigation and all directions should be carefully assessed before manouvering. It saves turning into a farm gate !would i buy another - yes i would, but in the knowledge of the reservations set out above. .

This Is a Review of Tomtom Customer Services!. I already have a tomtom satellite navigation system and use it regularly. I rate this as a 5 star product. I shall soon be travelling extensively throughout europe by road and recently saw an opportunity to purchase a spare unit quite cheaply at a sale. Although an older model, the unit was still boxed, absolutely complete and appeared to be unused. It would not, however, switch on but, thinking it needed nothing more than charging, i took a chance and bought it. I tried everything (as did my local store) but the unit simply would not switch on. Eventually, i contacted tomtom customer services and told them how the i had obtained the unit and that it was "not" under guarantee. Their service was exceptional. Firstly, they sent me a small package containing a cardboard box which, when assembled, fitted my tomtom unit perfectly and would clearly protect the unit whilst in the post. Secondly, the package also contained a royal mail "special delivery" envelope complete with address and tracking number. Postage and insurance were already paid by tomtom. Within 24 hours of my posting the unit back to tomtom i received an email confirming receipt and within 7 days i got another unit back. Tomtom had replaced my unit free of charge with a brand new and exactly the same model and all under guarantee!so for those of you who are contemplating purchasing a tomtom satellite navigation system, i thought you might like to know about this company's follow-up customer services system. They are quite excellent and i hope this message is useful. Nm.

Great. I recently used the tom tom for a trip to newport in wales and trusted it for getting me off the m4 and to my venue. Apart from one roundabout that was now a set of traffic lights it was first class. Use it a lot of my time and had no problems. It fits to the screen well and folds away in to the case i purchased fine. .

Conclusion of TomTom XL Classic Western Europe Satellite Navigation System

It only has a compact inner memory and, devoid of an sd card slot, this means the choice to upgrade maps is challenging and time consuming. Even now, having explained that it truly is a excellent monitor (while not terrific in immediate daylight, clear structure, good protection and clear audio. If i experienced tried out using a map, i would have squandered a great deal of time and petrol acquiring this location. On the way back, the bmw satnav stopped working as we approached the private road though the tomtom once again guided us ideal by way of the personal road and to the home. Possibly other satnavs have some of the attributes like approaching pace digicam warning, existing velocity, speed restrict and earlier mentioned pace limit indication, time now and estimatd time of arrival and miles, hours and minutes to go, but i identified them very very clear and handy on the tomtom.

So considerably so this time that it unsuccessful to locate a sign miles right after i had remaining the provider which intended that it could not direct me from the m4 on to the a329m at wokingham. Suffers from the standard occasional inadvertent way indications which experienced to be handled with caution (a little bit of frequent sense prevailing around blindly following the unit's spoken directions). Monitor was crystal clear and dazzling most of the time (except when it made a decision to reset itself in evening vision manner - whilst that may have been my fault as the touch display screen was so dim i couldn't see in which i was pressing. Display map is uncluttered and the extra facts in the base 50 percent of the display can be chosen from the preferences menu. A seem warnings implies to mapped presence of 'safety' cameras, and the display screen also shows the rely down distance to the camera's locale.

I experienced acquired seperately the tom tom traffic receiver attachment (further £28 or so) which is a bit fiddly to connect and has to be preset to the display screen and will only do the job when the total device is plugged into the 12v socket. It connected to the fm targeted visitors sign most of the time whilst on key routes but i uncovered it is facts woefully out of day or incorrect. Fantastic piece of products for travellers not owning to navigate with maps the total time, and affording them time to take in the surroundings. Approaching a directional transform it obviously and well timed gave voice course and visual warning relating to the switch or hazard ahead which was repeated as one particular approached the turn. One particular has no thought from the display as to the steepness of the highway ahead - but hey ho you cannot have everthing i suppose.

Nm. I recently used the tom tom for a trip to newport in wales and trusted it for getting me off the m4 and to my venue. I went for the xl model because of the wider screen having borrowed a standard tom tom from a relative. Around the midlands the device even asks whether or not you wish to avoid the m6 toll road when planning your journey so no unexpected charges. This is difficult and as a result i keep mine attached to the unit when i put it away in the box. Be very careful when attaching or detaching this as rough handling may well break the connector and render the unit useless (see other reader comments on this)overall delighted with the purchase and would recommend to anyone else just interested in finding the best way from a-b.

Large screen, clear timely instructions, easy to (re)program, good approximation inside tunnels. The map and visual directions remain perfect), so, like with any satnav system, one needs to know roughly where they are and where they want to get to. It's a good all round sat nav. I would say that it's essential that you keep yout map up to date by downloading from the web, as found there are road names and postcodes not listed. And plugging in the chrger whilst driving is not advisable, tom tom really have a desgin fault there.

Other wise all in all it does the job very well and i would recommend to anyone who just wants a simple easy to use sat nav. Recently purchased this sat nav (tom tom xl), as a sat nav virgin found this product very simple to use and very informative, need to be able to access the internet for updates but all in all pleased with the set up and ease of use. [5] the satnav can get a bit puzzled if there are huge wide roads with many exits close to each other. Note: you can't enter (for example) a car park location - it only notes a location if it's on a road. But these aren't available with this sat nav as far as i know.

It'll calculate a new route excluding that road. It may be other satnavs are worse though - i don't know and frankly can't be ars*d to find out - the people who sell the things should do the work for you. This product's screen is larger than its preceding one in its product range, otherwise, its exactly the same. This is my first sat nav and i have used it on a variety of both long and short journeys. Only downside was updating it on computer which would not work until had tried several things to get this to work.

Once or twice it has led me into very major road works it knew nothing about so use common sense. I hate driving, especially when i haven't driven to a location before but with the tomtom i am far more relaxed about a journey. Does everything you'd want from a satnav - great price tooforced into buying this as new car came without built-in satnav - big backward step for the car manufacturuer as far as i am concerned but a great intro to tom tom. Just a shame the attachment to the window is rubbish and if you update your tom tom online, which it recommends doing, it takes off the function that allows you to put in full post codes and only allows the first four letters/numbers, which is useless.Positives: sleek design (doesn't need separate piece to attach to your windscreen), very low price, easy to use, large screen.

Tom Tom Sat Nav. Recently purchased this sat nav (tom tom xl), as a sat nav virgin found this product very simple to use and very informative, need to be able to access the internet for updates but all in all pleased with the set up and ease of use. .

Worth the Money!. To find a sat nav that has all the features that you think you want , ends up being a fortune. I plumped for this one. It's a good all round sat nav. I travel with work and found it invaluable. I would say that it's essential that you keep yout map up to date by downloading from the web, as found there are road names and postcodes not listed. My only critasism is that the charges doesn't last that long. You will get about an hour or so before it has to be charged. And plugging in the chrger whilst driving is not advisable!, tom tom really have a desgin fault there. Other wise all in all it does the job very well and i would recommend to anyone who just wants a simple easy to use sat nav. .
