This is a big difference from other tomtom devices (like the go live 825), where the power supply has to be connected to the device each time rather than staying connected to the mount * better voices (particularly when reading street names etc). Very clear soundnegative points:* fuel prices have been removed from the live features. I can't believe tomtom is adding pointless features like trip advisor, but removes the feature to check cheap fuel prices around (particularly given the high fuel prices currently). The 740 device still had the fuel prices, so tomtom does have the data and still releases it to its cheaper devices rather than its flagship product. Makes no sense. However, they still charge the same live subscription as before. * mytomtom (hybrid of web-based features and local install) not as stable, reliable and useful as tomtom home (dedicated software on pc and mac)* quite a stiff power cable (the previous one was more flexible and was nicely following the dashboard shape)* power plug under the windscreen mount goes towards the right, which can be annoying if the device is installed at the centre of the windscreen, as the power cable goes towards the right. Clearly, this was designed for left-hand drive cars* connection between the power plug and the windscreen mount was more sturdy on my previous 740 device. Seems quite flimsy now. * not possible to do backups via my tomtom. Not sure what would happen if some files were getting corrupted (quite usual on a tomtom device). Tomtom home does allow the device files to be copied to a pc for backup, so a step backward here* screen is quite reflective (same type as smarphone capacitive screens). The 740 device had a mat screen. The new screen is more reactive (light touch required rather than heavy pushes) but a mat coating would have been better. * can set alert if speed exceeded on a specific road but just displayed icon rather than sound* very hard to find a suitable case. The official tomtom case does not really fit the 5" device (can't close the case)* quite hard to remove the device from its windscreen mount. The magnetic mount is probably working a little too well. There are surely no chances of having the device fall off its mount. * first device received from amazon had a small defect on the top left just above the screen (plastic not straight, small bump). Amazon replaced the device very quickly but second device had exactly the same defect. Conclusion: tomtom should have improved on the strenght of its previous live devices, but instead made some rather strange product choices. Not the improvement i was expecting from my 740 device. I gained some features but lost some. .
